She discovered that<br \/>\nHarry Reid&#8217;s great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing<br \/>\nand train robbery in Montana in 1889.\u00a0 Both Judy and Congressman Harry Reid<br \/>\nshare this common ancestor.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-633\" title=\"pic00041\" src=\"http:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic00041.jpg\" alt=\"pic00041\" width=\"318\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic00041.jpg 318w, https:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic00041-300x244.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Congressman Harry Reid<\/p>\n<p>The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in<br \/>\nMontana territory.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-634\" title=\"pic18467\" src=\"http:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic18467.jpg\" alt=\"pic18467\" width=\"491\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic18467.jpg 491w, https:\/\/www.majik.org\/cruxenrose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pic18467-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this<br \/>\ninscription: &#8216;Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison<br \/>\n1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton<br \/>\ndetectives, convicted and hanged in\u00a0 1889.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about<br \/>\ntheir great-great uncle.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, Harry Reid&#8217;s staff sent back the following biographical<br \/>\nsketch for her genealogy research:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business<br \/>\nempire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and<br \/>\nintimate dealings with the\u00a0\u00a0 Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he<br \/>\ndevoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking<br \/>\nleave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key<br \/>\nplayer in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective<br \/>\nAgency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held<br \/>\nin his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>NOW THAT is how it&#8217;s done in politics folks!\u00a0 That&#8217;s real SPIN.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree.
